Shane Nelson is Looking to Make a Statement Against Graham Spencer at MFC 35

| by

For Shane Nelson (15-6), a shot with Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) is a new beginning now that he's in the proper weight class. In Nelson's next fight, he drops from lightweight to featherweight.

"For sure, this is a fresh start at 145 pounds," said Nelson to MMA Weekly.

While in the UFC Nelson was 2-2, losing the last two fights. The former contest on The Ultimate Fighter wished there was a featherweight division during his stay in the UFC as he felt size placed him in a disadvantage.

"If the UFC would have had a 145 pound division [at the time], I would have been in it, but they didn't, and to me the reason I lost those fights were because I was the smaller guy," said Nelson. "It wasn't because I was out-classed. They were just bigger guys who were able to control where the fight went."

After his UFC release Nelson went on a three fight win streak before suffering a submission loss over the winter. He will make his featherweight debut against Graham Spencer (8-1) at MFC 35 in Canada. Spencer comes in making his MFC debut and on a several fight win streak.

MFC 35 airs tomorrow, Oct. 26, and can been seen live on AXS TV.
