Headlining the biggest Mixed Martial Arts fight card in New Mexico history, Houston “The Assassin” Alexander took home a TKO victory over “Razor” Razak Al-Hassan at MMA Fight Pit: “Genesis” at “The Pit” in Albuquerque last night. The win now make four straight wins for the former UFC light heavyweight and 4-1 with one no contest since his release.
The main event was stopped between rounds by the ringside doctor after looking over Al-Hassan’s finger and deeming it severely dislocated. “We just took our time and got back to boxing. We used a new technique and it worked. My conditioning was great, I was ready. I’m disappointed in the early stoppage but it happens,” said Alexander.
It was an unfortunate ending to an exciting bout and understandably Al-Hassan was disappointed with the way the fight turned out. “At some point during the second round I knew something was wrong because I couldn’t make a fist when I was throwing my jab. At the end of the second I went back to my corner and looked down at my hand and realized my finger was either dislocated or broken. The doctor came and took a look at it and stopped the fight,” described Al-Hassan.
Alexander (13-6, 2 NC) has now finished his last his fights by TKO and could possibly be knocking on the door of a return to the UFC. Bursting onto the big stage with back to back first round (T)KO’s against Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara, Alexander lost his last four bouts in the UFC. The assassin is not over looking the MMAFight Pit card and express high praise for the event, “the atmosphere…it was amazing. I can’t describe it. I walked in and it was crazy. It was a great time,”
Besides Alexander big win, MMA legend and former UFC lightweight champion Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver got back in the win column against the crowd favorite, Coty “Ox” Wheeler in the night co-main event. Wheeler made the mistake of trying to stand with the Veteran of 40+ fights and the proved to be his downfall. The win for Pulver continued his recent upswing that’s seen him win three of his last four fights after losing six in a row and eight of his last nine.
