The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Gina Carano has been cast in a lead role for the upcoming film, In The Blood. Carano, who was recently featured in Haywire, has not competed inside a cage since a 2009 loss to Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos.
In The Blood is scheduled to begin shooting this year in Puerto Rico, with John Stockwell attached to direct. The film will focus on a woman - played by Carano - tracking down those who kidnapped her husband while on vacation in the Caribbean.
"This role will showcase not only Gina's fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past," Stockwell said.
Haywire, which starred such actors as Ewan McGregor and Michael Douglas, did not receive great reviews. Carano, however, was applauded for her performance in the film. With this role, it would seem very likely another year will pass without Carano competing for Strikeforce.
