As the May 2 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather approaches, more and more people are picking sides. Perhaps there is not bigger supporter than arguably the best fighter of all time, Muhammad Ali. The former heavyweight champion is siding with Pacquiao, according to his daughter, Rasheda Ali.
"My dad is Team Pacquiao all the way! My dad really likes Manny,” Rasheda said. “He's a huge fan of his. He knows Manny's a great fighter...but it's more about what he does outside the ring. He's such a charitable person."
In fact, Pacquiao and Ali have been good friends for a while. According to The Guardian, Pacquiao attended Ali’s 70th birthday party in 2012.
Pacquiao will try to end Mayweather’s undefeated record in 47 fights when they face each other in what has been dubbed the fight of the century, at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand in a month.
Mayweather is known for being outspoken and very confident just like Ali was during his time as a fighter, but according to Ali’s daughter, they are not that much alike.
"My dad stood for things,” Rasheda said. “Mayweather...I don't think there's a comparison."
Despite Ali’s support of Pacquiao, he will not be able to attend the fight. Instead he will be one of the millions to watch it on pay-per-view.
“There’s no question he’s going to order it. It takes my dad way back to when he was fighting,” Rasheda said.
