A Colorado man died after getting into a car accident while driving his pregnant wife to the hospital.
Tony Schmucker, 37, and Jill Schmucker, 35, were on their way to the hospital on Jan. 13 for the birth of their third child, 9 News reported.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, Tony had a medical episode which caused him to veer off the road and crash the family car into an embankment. The car hit a boulder and a tree before rolling over.
The couple’s two other children were also in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Their first son, Ryder, called 911 after the crash. Both of his parents were unconscious.
Tony was rushed to Poudre Valley Hospital by ambulance, where he died from injuries. Jill was airlifted to the Medical Center of the Rockies, where she had an emergency C-section to give birth to her third child. She also suffered a broken back.
The couple’s two children suffered minor injuries and Jill is expected to make a full recovery. A GoFundMe page was set up by the family and has raised more than $43,000.
“Tony my brother was an awesome father, brother, and son in our family,” Aaron Schmucker wrote on the page. “He died trying to ensure the safe arrival of his son.
“I look at his boys and think of all the things that Tony had told me he couldn't wait to do with them like hunting, fishing, snowboarding, and many other things.”
Tony and Jill were married on Aug. 2, 2007, according to their Facebook page.
