A video showing a female lion prowling around in the back of an SUV while the driver was stuck in a traffic jam on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai has gone viral.
A driver behind filmed the incident after pulling up behind a Nissan Armada and posted the video to YouTube with the title: “Nissan Armada in Dubai ... now with more LION.”
The description read: “My sister was driving behind this truck in Dubai when she noticed something odd in the back.”
Dubai police are reportedly investigating the video.
“We didn’t receive any calls about the incident, but we’re checking the video now to see if it’s old or new,” a Dubai Police spokesman said.
Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, operations assistant for the head of Dubai Police, said that it’s not illegal to transfer a wild animal inside a private vehicle, but people should be careful.
“It’s not logical for a person to transfer a lion or crocodile inside a car,” Al Zafeen told local newspaper 7Days. “If someone did such a thing and he is arrested, he will be fined for endangering the lives of others.
“People must be more careful and mature in transferring animals and should use a special company to carry their animals.”
The video was posted last week and has garnered over 180,000 views as of this writing.
This is not the first time wild animals have caused an uproar in the emirate. A lion was reportedly sighted in Jumeirah Beach Residence in 2012.
“Big cats” have become a status symbol for wealth and thousands are believed to be kept domestically in Arab states.
