Three people were hospitalized after they reportedly tried to get honey from a bee hive in New Port Richey, Florida.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, fire rescue was called as three men and a woman who came out of her home were swarmed by bees.
"They were covered in bees -- their beards, their hair, their clothes," neighbor Tom Johnson told WTSP. "Bees were everywhere."
Firefighters hosed off the group in an attempt to remove the bees.
All three men were taken to the hospital, having suffered as many as 50 bee stings each. The woman was stung a dozen times, but she was not seriously injured. No firefighters were stung.
Officials said the bees were domesticated honey bees; however, that claim has since been disputed, with many commenters saying they were more likely wild bees.
The hive, which contained between 20,000 and 30,000 bees, was dismantled today.
