A source reveals he thinks he knows who killed JonBenet Ramsey.
Michael Vail says he believes his high school friend, 52-year-old Gary Oliva, killed 6-year-old Ramsey, In Touch Weekly reported.
“He kept moaning, ‘I hurt a little girl. I hurt a little girl,’” Vail recalls Oliva saying on Dec. 27, 1996, only a few days after the child died on December 25.
“To me, Gary’s call that night was a full confession,” he added.
Vail says even the way Ramsey was killed reminded him of Oliva.
The child was strangled with a garrote made from a broken paintbrush and a piece of rope.
“My blood ran cold when I read that,” Vail said. He said it reminded him of a time when Oliva, a schizophrenic, had reportedly used a telephone cord in an attempt to strangle his own mother.
What’s more, the Daily Camera reports Oliva is a registered sex offender, having assaulted a seven-year-old girl once in Oregon.
“Gary used to carry paintbrushes like that with him when he was an art student and he studied how to make knots. He had drawings of them, and put them in his collages,” Vail added.
So convinced he is that Oliva is responsible, he says he will continue to encourage further investigations so justice can be served.
“This has been an open wound for me,” Vail explained to In Touch. “He’s a monster and he needs to be where he can never strike again. No other family should be ripped apart by a predator like him.”
Police reportedly had questioned Oliva previously about the case, but the man had denied any wrongdoing.
Yet Oliva did confess to being obsessed with the child.
"I believe she came to me after she was killed and revealed herself to me," he said, the Daily Mirror reported. "I'd like to see a memorial set up for her. I haven't seen that, anywhere."
In June 2016, Oliva once again captured national attention after he was arrested on charges of child pornography.
