A teen girl was shot dead by her friend in a south Las Vegas home on Tuesday in an incident police are calling an accident.
Brooklyn Mohler, 13, was taken to University Medical Center at 3:30 p.m., but doctors were not able to save her. She was just one day away from finishing the seventh grade.
Mohler was shot by another teen girl who was holding the gun inside the home when it went off. It is believed the gun belonged to the girl's parents. Police are not planning on filing any charges because they believe it was an accident but are still investigating.
Two other children were in the home when the shooting happened, but it is not known if any adults were there.
Mohler was well-liked among her peers and was described as a happy teen.
"She was really outgoing and bright," one friend said. "She was friends with everyone. She was loud and funny."
Police were called twice to the home last month — once for a family disturbance and a second time when someone reported drug paraphernalia.
