A teen died from being decapitated after sticking his head out of the window of a school bus and hitting an electrical pole (news video below).
The 16-year-old was looking out of the window of the bus as it drove down a narrow street in Durban when the incident occurred, according to the NY Daily News. The bus had reportedly hit a street sign, prompting the teen to investigate by sticking his head out the window.
“It first hit this sign; everybody was still inside the bus," a security guard old the Durban Mercury. "The boy then peeked his head out the window – he was sitting near the back – to see what was happening and before he knew it, he was struck by the sign on the second pole."
“I think the bus was trying to avoid hitting the side mirrors of a car parked on the side of the road, but then it drifted closer to the pole,” witness Bongani Dlamini said, according to Inquisitr. “At that moment, the child peeped out the window and looked behind him (to see the sign the bus had struck) and by the time he looked where the bus was heading, it was too late to draw his head back in.”
The student was traveling with 106 other students, who were all reportedly traumatized by the accident. Forty-five of those classmates were on the bus with him, Inquisitr reported.
“I wanted to help, but I couldn’t,” the security guard said. “He was still breathing -- blood still gushing -- when I got to him.
"But there was absolutely nothing I could do for him.”
