A Canadian hotel went up in flames Thursday and at least one person was charged with arson.
While onlookers stood outside filming the Towers Hotel in Dauphin, Manitoba, one wall collapsed and then another. Locals suddenly gasp at the sight of a black and white cat running from the rubble.
Lively and vocal, the wet cat, named Sylvester, approached the crowd meowing.
He was taken to a vet and treated for smoke inhalation. He’s expected to make a full recovery. He was reunited with his owner on Friday, CTV News reported.
Authorities say the fire was reported around 3 a.m. on Sept. 18. No humans were inside the building when fire crews arrived.
Unable to stand the flames inside, fire crews were forced to battle the blaze from outside. Police said the building is considered a total loss. About 25 permanent tenants of the hotel are now displaced.
Terrance Guiboche, 30, of Swan River, was charged with arson in connection to the fire, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
