A Romanian man has forgiven his wife after she attacked him on International Women’s Day and tore open his testicles.
Ionel Popa, 39, had to be rushed to hospital following the incident, which occurred in northeastern Romania, according to media reports.
Marinela Benea, 40, said the problems began when Ionel was given a bottle of wine instead of getting paid for a day’s work and returned home drunk.
“All night he made me keep the fire on because he was cold and I did it to avoid having an argument,” Benea said, according to Mirror.co.uk.
“In the morning I opened the curtains and told him to go out and do some work, or at least to help with the household chores, but he shouted that I'm not entitled to give him orders,” she added.
Local media reported at the time that Benea claimed not to be aware of her own strength.
“I told him he was not any kind of man and I grabbed his testicles. It was not my fault that he pulled away, and that's when it happened,” she said.
“His face changed when he felt something rip, but he didn't scream, he didn't utter a sound at first,” Benea added.
Aurora Popa, a paramedic called to the scene, spoke to the media.
“The man had a severe open wound on his scrotum. He told us his wife had attacked him because he did not give her flowers for International Woman's Day,” she said, according to the Sun.
Ionel required emergency surgery to repair the injury, but Benea stated she wasn’t convinced her husband needed to go to hospital.
“I thought maybe that some ice would solve the problem, but he insisted on calling an ambulance. He was pretty annoyed,” she said, Mirror.co.uk reported.
Ionel stated he was making a recovery.
“I'm OK, we all make mistakes; the main thing is I forgive my wife,” he said.
“I was supposed to get some flowers. I should have woken-up earlier,” Ionel said.
Ionel and Benea have been married for 15 years and have a child together.
