Portland Police arrested blogger Michael Strickland, who was waiving a handgun, on July 7 during a Black Lives Matter rally (video below).
Strickland, who runs the right-wing video blog "Laughing at Liberals," was filmed by blogger Mike "Bluehair" Smith in a confrontation with protesters on a street, notes PhotographyIsNotACrime.com.
Strickland yelled, "Get back!" and "Get the hell back!”
Strickland reportedly threatened those who came near him and at one point he allegedly aimed his gun at Smith, who yelled, "Put the gun down!"
Strickland eventually put his gun away.
"I know everybody that played a major role is calming this down," Smith told PhotographyIsNotACrime.com on July 8. "This is a clear example of people calming things down and disarming a potential gunman without violence. We were lucky to have a handful of guys in the right place and time to calm this down before shots were fired!"
Strickland has not posted any videos from the incident on his YouTube page yet.
Police said Strickland was charged with menacing and disorderly conduct in the second degree, reports The Portland Mercury.
In a brief interview with KOIN reporter Andrew Dymburt, posted on Twitter, Strickland said before his arrest:
They kept coming towards me. They kept coming towards me. That's why I drew ... I was outnumbered, they were approaching, shoving me. They were using their flagstaffs as weapons. I was backing up. They kept coming towards me. I feared for my life. I was outnumbered. They had weapons.
