A suspect allegedly stabbed a suburban New York police officer respnding to a 911 call in the face on Aug. 13.
The afternoon attack occurred at a home in Suffolk County, New York, according to a police department news release.
When police arrived on the scene, they found 40-year-old Mark Caraway, who was behaving in a confrontational manner, armed with knives.
Caraway then allegedly stabbed an officer in the face, which prompted another officer to shoot the suspect in the abdomen.
The officer sustained serious, but non-life threatening, injuries and required facial surgery.
Caraway was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The Homicide Squad and Internal Affairs Bureau opened an investigation into the incident.
Charges are pending against Caraway, according to Fox News.
