A plumber in Canada found a buried treasure underneath a bathtub.
Alif Babul has been a plumber for 12 years and had come across all sorts of interesting things, said News OK. He was renovating a bathroom with his apprentice, Dean Materi, when they made a surprising discovery.
“Lo and behold, there was a gold bar sitting there,” Babul told CBC News.
Babul said they didn’t recognize the stamped brick of gold at first and nearly threw it away. The one-kilogram brick of gold carried a value of more than $50,000.
"Who stores gold bars underneath their tub, right?” Babul asked. “Kinda crazy.”
Despite the amazing discovery, Babul knew the treasure wasn’t for him to keep. Company policy requires employees to return found items to the owners of the home.
“My wife and I had a long chat about that,” Babul said. “I said to my wife, 'I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's the right thing to do.'”
The owners had lost track of the golden brick’s whereabouts. Babul said they were relieved and thankful that he found it and turned it in.
“Hopefully karma comes our way,” Babul said. “Good karma.”
