A photographer rediscovered an abandoned nudist camp that is now nothing but dilapidated houses – but there used to be naked people there a long time ago.
Photographer and historian Tia Nadeau was hiking with her friends in Durham, Maine when she happened to come across the former nude hangout, according to the Bangor Daily News. Nadeau took several photos and posted them to her popular Facebook page, Quest for the Unknown.
Nadeau said she knew about the nudist colony from friends and family who used to shed their clothes there in the 1970s, when it was still active.
But since then, the area has been abandoned and the houses, which once gave refuge to naked people, are now crumbling.
Nadeau actually went inside the crumbling houses to take photos of where naked people used to congregate.
Although this nudist colony is no longer active, the American Association for Nude Recreation claims to have more than 200,000 members who meet up in various locales around the country including Auburn, Maine, which is a short drive from Durham.
