A Philadelphia woman was taken into custody Tuesday after locking five children in an SUV with the motor running on one of the hottest days of summer.
Medics had to rescue the children from the car in the parking lot of a local grocery store, where the woman left them. The kids were 6 months old, 1 year old and ages 6, 8 and 9.
The children were reportedly ok when they exited the car, according to NBC news.
Witnesses said she locked the children in the car while she went into a ShopRite to buy groceries around 11 a.m. The people in the parking lot called police to report the incident.
Police officers said the woman now faces several charges. They have yet to identify if she is the children’s mother or if she was watching them for another person.
