The brutal beating with a flashlight of an Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, woman by her husband in a parking lot was caught on cell phone video (embedded below).
The domestic assault took place in the back of a pickup truck, and the woman may be seen in the video screaming as her husband, Douglas Beckham, 52, hits her with a flashlight.
A group of men who were passing through Oklahoma City on their way to El Paso, Texas, then approach the husband and wife to intervene in the assault after hearing her scream for help.
“Stay out of it,” Beckham yells at the men.
Beckham tries to leave but one of the men follows him to the driver's side, where he is seated, and punches him.
He eventually drives the truck away but comes back shortly after, driving in the direction of the men. The men respond by breaking the truck window, which makes Beckham speed off again.
The woman tries to get out of the truck by kicking out the cab window and climbing out to the bed of the truck, Mad World News reports. Multiple scrapes and cuts may be seen on her legs in the video from the broken glass.
The argument reportedly started when Beckham refused to buy his wife food at a drive-thru. It took place on Aug. 6 but the video has only now become available online.
The husband and wife are homeless and have been living out of two cars, KFOR reports.
“When I first saw the video … I did not know the video was connected to Oklahoma or Oklahoma City,” said Capt. Paco Balderrama of the Oklahoma City Police Department. “I was very surprised, it`s very alarming, it`s a very sad video.”
Beckham is currently in the Oklahoma County Detention Center. He faces two charges of assault with a deadly weapon, and one charge of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
