The 19-year-old son of an Orange County firefighter was arrested Sunday in connection with three recent arson fires.
Anaheim teenager Gabriel Michael Castillo allegedly started the series of brush fires in Yorba Linda, eastern Orange County, last week, according to NBC News.
Castillo is the son of a firefighter who has worked for the Orange County Fire Authority for 18 years.
“His father is a model employee,” said Kelly Zimmerman, chief of the Orange County Fire Authority. “It hits particularly close to home for us. This is the very thing his father spent his entire career, getting burned, bruised, and bled, over stopping this tragedy from impacting other people’s lives.”
Castillo was booked into Orange County Jail Sunday, after an investigation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Anaheim police pointed to him as a prime suspect, according to CBS News.
Officials said that a security tape and Castillo’s vehicle led investigators to him.
The multiple fires were set near Yorba Linda in a period of less than four hours on Aug. 19. No people or homes were damaged in the fires.
The case was transferred from the Orange County Fire Authority to the Sheriff’s Department after investigators learned about Castillo’s connection to a firefighter.
