After being hit by a car, receiving a cancer diagnosis and falling 50-feet while climbing in Yosemite National Park, one woman packed her bags to visit the Seven New Wonders of the World (video below).
“In three weeks time I was handed the trifecta of bad luck,” wrote Megan Sullivan on BoredPanda.com, calling it literally the “worst month of my life.”
Yet rather than break her, it was this series of unfortunate events that led to Sullivan rethink the way she was living her life.
“I came to this amazing realization...that the only thing stopping me from having everything that I ever wanted in life was simple: me,” Sullivan said.
“In my lifetime, the greatest learning moments have come at a time of tragedy and loss. From loss comes radical change, for it opens up a space that is yearning for something new,” she added.
So Sullivan decided to fulfill the dream of many: to visit all the Seven New Wonders of the World in 13 days.
“I would always say, “there isn’t enough time or money” but those were just excuses. What I was really afraid of was failure. I needed to stop thinking that my goals were impossible and start thinking that I have the power to decide how I am going to live my life everyday,” she added.
Sullivan traveled to various locations worldwide, from South America and Asia to Europe and the Middle East, taking 15 flights and clocking 28,211 total miles in a little less than two weeks.
She returned renewed and inspired.
“The only regrets that I have in my life are from the missed opportunities that I never took a chance on. This year I took a chance and I will continue taking [chances] to experience the greatest adventure of all: my life,” she wrote.
According to The Official New 7 Wonders of the World’s website, these wonders “have been elected by more than 100 million votes to represent global heritage throughout history.”
