Police in Memphis, Tennessee, made an arrest in the murder of 15-year-old Vianca Harris.
Terry Turner, 24, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Harris, who was pregnant when she was killed. Harris was shot and killed at an apartment complex around 1 a.m. on March 14.
Police told WREG Harris was four to five weeks pregnant at the time of her death. She was found inside of a family member's home.
"That's my baby. I'm gonna miss her. I love my baby so much," Jenell Harris, Vianca's mother, told WATN.
Vianca, according to her mother, spent the weekend at the apartment complex with friends. She had just celebrated her birthday in February and was completing her last year of middle school, where she was on the honor roll and excited about starting high school.
"I'm just tired of all the gun violence," Harris told WATN. "My baby didn't deserve that. Nobody's child deserves to be killed. Period."
The day after Vianca's death, her family spoke to WREG and revealed they had no clue about her pregnancy.
"That's crazy, like how? When? It's just too much for me," the girl's sister, Dasinae Lane, said.
A police affidavit showed that Turner told officers that Vianca was playing with a gun, and that he tried to take it away from her before it went off and hit the girl in the back of the head.
A witness told police Turner removed a shotgun from a closet, loaded it and shot Vianca.
"It's very sad cause nothing doesn't happen over here like that," the witness, who wished to remain anonymous, told WREG.
In October 2015, Turner was reportedly arrested on a felony charge and believed to be a woman upon his arrest -- appearing in a mugshot dressed as a female. When police realized Terry was male, he was transferred from a female facility to one where male inmates are held.
Additional charges relating to the unborn child Vianca was carrying are pending, police said.
