A video (below) of an unidentified teen knocking out an elderly man while another teen cheers on the assault recently went viral on the Web. The incident reportedly happened on Dec. 7, 2015 in Paterson, New Jersey.
According to the Paterson Times, police charged a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old with aggravated assault and endangering an injured victim.
The 17-year-old allegedly punched the senior, while the 16-year-old reportedly encouraged him to do it and filmed the assault.
The 16-year-old surrendered to police on Feb. 6, according to City Police Director Jerry Speziale.
Lawyer Harley Breite said on Feb. 7 that the 17-year-old would turn himself into police on Feb. 9.
Breite told NorthJersey.com that he needed two days to prepare his 17-year-old client “for a safe surrender,” but did not explain what a "safe surrender" is.
“I’d like to thank Lieutenant Navaro of the Paterson Police Department for his courtesies and cooperation in allowing me to turn in my client,” Breite stated.
Breite said the teen would plead not guilty, and added, "It is unfair for anyone to draw a conclusion without knowing what precipitated the events caught on video."
