A Texas mother fatally shot her two daughters before police officers shot and killed her outside their home.
On June 24 in the Houston suburb of Fulshear, a family argument reportedly escalated to the point that 42-year-old Christy Sheats fatally shot her two daughters, 22-year-old Taylor Sheats and 17-year-old Madison Sheats, ABC News reports.
When a Fulshear police officer arrived at the Sheats’ home, both daughters had already been shot, according to Sheriff Troy Nehls. Their mother Christy was holding a gun in her hand, allegedly preparing to shoot one of her daughters again.
The officer shot and killed Christy.
One of the daughters died at the scene, and the other was transported by Lifeflight to the Texas Medical Center in critical condition, the Houston Chronicle reports. Fulshear Police later confirmed her death.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
“It was a family argument that turned into a shooting,” Nehls said. “But we’re still trying to put the pieces together.”
The girls’ father, who was home when the shooting occurred, was not injured, but did receive medical attention.
“He’s going through a very difficult time,” Nehls said.
