Audrey Loving is thankful for her ex-partner's new girlfriend.
Loving’s former fiance, Corey Henry, has weekend custody of their 4-year-old daughter, Riley. When the youngster visits her father, his new girlfriend, Whitney McGraw, helps take care of her. And Loving has no problem with that.
As she explained in an interview with Today, “I come from a blended family -- I have stepsisters, half-sisters. Growing up, I heard the negative talk about the ‘other woman,’ and I didn’t want my kid to hear the same thing.”
Loving tries to see things from McGraw’s perspective, noting, “It’s awkward for her too -- dating someone with a kid. I’m not interested in the baby mama drama … I welcomed her into my family with open arms.”
Loving admits that at first it was not so easy to share her daughter with another woman. “Of course it’s hard. You have a kid and your mama bear comes out. But the fact that someone’s there loving my daughter … I’m at peace knowing she’s being taken care of. The more people that love your kid, the better.”
McGraw’s considerate behavior helped put Loving’s fears to rest. “Whitney would send me pictures and keep me updated," she recalled. "One night I sent her a text saying, ‘You know, I’m extremely thankful for you.’”
Eventually, the thankful mother shared her thoughts on Facebook’s Love What Matters Facebook page. Beneath a photo of McGraw and Riley together, the post reads in part: "This is my daughters fathers girlfriend. The sweetest thing ever! I'm super thankful for her because when she visits her dad she feeds her, takes care of her, buys her gifts, and basically takes care of her like her own.”
Loving’s note obviously struck a positive chord with the public, resulting in about 70,000 likes, 9,000 shares and 5,000 replies.
