Florida police have recovered the body of a 38-year-old father who took his son jet skiing and never returned.
William Morris took his 3-year-old son, August, jet skiing in the Alafia River on Oct. 31. William told his wife, Tina Morris, they would be home soon. When Tina didn't hear back from her husband for several hours, she tried to call him using the FaceTime app. August picked up the phone rather than William, and the mother was panicked when August said his father had gone missing.
Tina quickly called 911 while keeping her son on FaceTime.
"I tried to figure out what could happen because I know my husband would probably never leave my son by himself," Tina told WFTS. "It's not like him, he loves him too much."
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says somebody saw the 3-year-old alone on Island 75 and stayed with him until help arrived.
When deputies arrived, they found the father's jet ski on the southern part of the island. His life jacket and wallet were also found nearby.
Tina says she believes her son was stranded on the island for more than an hour.
"He was crying real bad," she said. "I couldn't really understand what he was saying."
William's body was later found about a half mile from Island 75.
It is still a mystery what happened to William, according to the Tampa Bay Times. His family wonders how he was separated from his son and from his cellphone.
"I just don't understand the whole scenario," William's mother, Cindy Morris, told the Tampa Bay Times. "It's not like him to leave everything."
Cindy's husband died suddenly earlier this year.
"It's been a hard year," she said.
