A touching letter written from a mother to her gay son has gone viral.
The letter was written to 13-year-old Connor from his mother after he came out of the closet back in March. In the note, Connor’s mother lets him know how much he is loved and makes clear that she and his father will always be there to support him.
“I am pretty proud that we have the kind of relationship in which you felt comfortable coming out to me at 13 years old,” writes Connor’s mother, who isn’t identified. “I am hoping that we have created an environment in our house in which you know you are loved, you are safe, and that we will support you and fight for you.”
Commenters online have reacted mostly positive to the letter, but some have used it to express their opinions on the topic of homosexuality.
“This mother is supporting what is frankly a HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE lifestyle choice!” wrote user Manfred Marsley on the Daily Mail’s report. “It is frankly incomprehensible that the mother is encouraging this type of behaviour! The teachings of the Bible no longer seem to count. No wonder society has gone to pot!”
Still, others have been inspired by the mother’s unconditional love and support for her son.
“Connor has a more loving parent than any Christian writing negative comments here could ever wish to be,” said user Beadot.
The letter was posted to the A Note To My Kid website, a project started by PFLAG National.
