A terrifying accident at a London Tube station was caught on surveillance footage recently.
On the footage, a parent carries a child in a stroller down a flight of stairs and leaves the stroller unattended momentarily while he fetches his other child.
In the brief moment that the stroller is unattended, it rolls down the train platform and falls into the train tracks. A bystander wearing headphones is completely unaware of what’s happening in front of him.
The child’s mother appears on footage seconds later and jumps down into the tracks and rescues the child.
A second camera angle of the accident shows just how close to death the child came. The stroller toppled down into the tracks just seconds after a train pulled out of the station. If the stroller had started rolling even a moment earlier, the child likely would have been killed.
Here’s the footage:
And just in case that video gets taken down, here is a copy:
Police are aware of the incident and would like to speak with both the parents and the oblivious bystander seen on the video, MailOnline reports.
After reviewing the tape, Chief Inspector Mark Lawrie said, “This was a frightening incident, not just for the scale of the danger the child was exposed to, but also because the woman then put her own life on the line by going on to the tracks.”
