A Pennsylvania mother of two is in jail after police say she put her two young children in the trunk of a car before going on a joyride on July 10.
Police pulled over Jessica Reger, 29, from Hanover, Pennsylvania, after receiving a tip she had put her two children, ages 3 and 5, in the trunk of her friend's red Corvette and the two then drove off.
After asking to see the inside of the trunk, an officer found the two children in the trunk and arrested Reger on counts of endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person, according to the Daily Mail.
Reger's friend, Ilena Blackburn, who was driving the car while Reger sat in the passenger seat, was also charged for reckless endangerment as well as traffic violations for improper child-restraints, but Daily Mail reports she has not yet been arrested.
It is not yet clear whether the children were harmed during the car ride, which reportedly lasted only a few blocks before the pair was pulled over, or Reger's motivation for placing her children in the trunk. It is also unclear who is caring for the two children while their mother is behind bars.
Reger's criminal record includes charges of shoplifting, driving without a license, endangering the welfare of a child, and disorderly conduct. She is currently being held in York County Jail after she was unable to post the $2,500 bail, according to New York Daily News.
Reger has been in a state prison at least once before, and one of her mugshots shows a smiling Reger being booked into jail. Blackburn is scheduled to be arraigned on July 22, according to the York Dispatch.
