A North Carolina teacher has been arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a student after it was discovered that she allegedly sent him pornographic images.
Elizabeth Lorraine Brown of State Road, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with nine counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor under the age of 16. Brown, a math teacher at Starmount Middle School, was also suspended without pay following her arrest. The student in question is said to be a student at Starmount High School.
Deputies say that Brown sent the student multiple images “of an erotic or pornographic nature” and had been contacting the high school student for several months.
In a statement on Friday, Yadkin County Schools addressed the issue.
“The administration of the Yadkin County Schools is cooperating fully with law enforcement in the investigation (and prosecution, if applicable) of any allegations of misconduct against an employee of the Yadkin County Schools,” reads the statement. “Ms. Brown is presently the subject of criminal charges filed by the Yadkin County Sheriff's Department relating to alleged misconduct involving one or more students. Misconduct involving students is a basis for termination of a teacher's employment as well as a basis for criminal charges.”
Since her arrest, Brown has been released on $14,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court in the coming week.
