Ever wondered who the richest person in your state is?
Thanks to a map compiled by the real estate blog Movoto, it is now easy to not only find out who the richest person in each state is, but to also compare his other her relative wealth to that of other states’ richest inhabitants.
The interactive map shows the net worth of the richest resident in each U.S. state. Included in the array is a mix of both entrepreneurs who made their own money and heirs to great fortunes.
Each state is shaded in a color that corresponds to its level of wealth: darker shades of blue correspond to the richest end of the spectrum, while darker shades of red indicate a state on the lower end of the spectrum.
The country’s richest resident, Bill Gates – whose net worth is an astonishing $80 billion – lives in Washington state.
In contrast, the least wealthy of the country’s richest residents, Robert Gillam, founder of institutional investment firm McKinley Capital, lives in Alaska. Gillam’s net worth is $700 million.
Notably, heirs to the Walmart empire are the richest people in three separate states: Jim Walton, Alice Walton and Christy Walton are the richest people in Arkansas, Texas and Wyoming respectively.
