A man in New York City reportedly committed suicide by cutting off his own head in broad daylight on a city street.
Tomas Rivera, 51, is said to have parked his 2005 Honda CRV on a street in the Hunt’s Point section of the Bronx on Monday at around 9:35 a.m., according to the New York Daily News. He then tied a chain around a pole and secured it around his head, as well, according to police. When he put his foot on the gas and moved forward, he hit a parked vehicle. Police say he was decapitated and died.
At first, witnesses believed the crash was accidental, reports the New York Post. With the help of a surveillance video, police were able to later confirm that Rivera’s death was intentional.
