A supermall is pulling a rape T-shirt after it sparked outrage on social media.
The dark blue T-shirt sold at the nation’s largest mall operator, SM Supermalls, says “It’s not rape, It’s a snuggle with a struggle” accompanied by an image of hands in a heart shape.
A picture of the shirt was shared 4,000 times on Facebook.
“I count myself among those worked really hard especially in the 90's for the rights of girls and women so it really got me upset. I was shaking when I took it. I wanted to throw up,” wrote Karen Kunawicz, who posted the picture. Kunawicz reportedly found the shirt in the boy’s section of the department store.
“SM needs to not only pull this shirt, they need to issue a very public apology to rape victims everywhere, and make a costly monetary donation to crisis centers that help rape victims,” commented Celine Ulgado.
SM Supermalls has 43 stores across the Philippines and more in China, The Independent reported.
Tuesday morning the retailer posted an apology to Facebook and says it has pulled all of the shirts from their stores.
“SM does not support such irresponsible and malicious acts that mock important and sensitive social issues,” the statement said. “We have immediately pulled out all the t-shirts of the consignor that distributes them, and we are investigating why it was included in our delivery of assorted T-shirts.”
Kunawicz has implored the online community to help her “find out who REALLY made them.”
