JonBenet Ramsey Suspect Arrested On Child Porn Charges

| by David Bonner

After twenty years, the murder of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey still has not been solved, but the case is back in the news.

One of the former suspects in the case, Gary Howard Oliva, was arrested June 17 in Boulder, Colorado, on charges of possessing child pornography, which he allegedly uploaded to his Gmail account in April, the Daily Mail reports.

According to the arrest affidavit, Google informed authorities that the porn in question depicted children under 10 years of age engaging in sexual activity "with each other or with adult males," Newser reports.

The facts of the murder are familiar to fans of true crime. JonBenet’s body was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her home in 1996, and her parents were the primary suspects for many years, the Daily Mail notes. It was not until 2008 that they were officially cleared of any wrongdoing.

The 52-year-old Oliva has a long history of problems. Currently homeless and believed to be a paranoid schizophrenic, he was a registered sex offender at the time of JonBenet’s death and remains so. He was arrested in 2000 for illegal possession of a stun gun.

In a 2002 television interview on the CBS television program "48 Hours Investigates," Oliva said of JonBenet: "I believe she came to me after she was killed and revealed herself to me."

Oliva is currently being held on $10,000 bail, charged with two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child and one count of sexual exploitation of a child.
