Jason Wymer Charged With Child Porn After Receiving Accidental Text of an 8-Year-Old

| by Sarah Fruchtnicht

A mother attempted to send a text of her fully-clothed 8-year-old daughter to the child’s older sister, but mistakenly misdialed and sent it to 42-year-old Jason Wymer of Citrus Heights, Calif.

Federal court documents indicate that Wymer responded to the mother’s text asking for more photographs of her daughter and tried to speak with the 8-year-old. The mother then contacted the FBI.

An FBI agent posing as the 8-year-old responded to Wymer’s texts, and after several weeks agents collected numerous sexually explicit messages from him. Later, a search of Wymer’s apartment turned up thousands of child pornographic materials and led to his arrest.

According to his neighbor who spoke anonymously with ABC News10, Wymer lives with his girlfriend and her young daughter.

Legal definitions of child pornography vary, but most consist of sexually explicit images involving a child, or exploitation of pubescent/pre-pubescent minors.

30 to 80 percent of individuals who view child pornography and 76 percent of individuals who have been arrested for internet child pornography have molested a child, according to the Mayo Clinic. 17.3 million images and videos of suspected child porn were reported by The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2011.
