A Chicago couple say they were deeply disturbed after watching surveillance video that showed an intruder breaking into their home and watching them as they slept (video below).
Jack Mackercher and his girlfriend, Jordan Buranskas, were trying to find a purse that had gone missing. They decided to watch surveillance video to retrace their steps, and that’s when they realized an intruder had entered their home, WLS reported.
The recording showed a man standing at the top of a staircase staring at the couple as they slept around 3:30 a.m. on July 25.
"I'm like, 'Why are you at the top of the stairs wearing a white hoodie before we went to bed?' She's like, 'I wasn't at the top of the stairs.' So that's when you go flush and start to freak out a little bit," Mackercher told WLS.
The couple believe the intruder came in through an unlocked door. The suspect moved so quietly that he did not wake up the couple’s two dogs.
"He stood there for about five minutes the first time then walked away, then came back and hovered over us again for another five minutes," Buranskas said. The only thing that went missing was Buranskas' purse.
The suspect has been nicknamed the “Creeper Ghost.” He is believed to be responsible for other recent burglaries in the neighborhood.
“I like to think that he was watching the TV and not us,” Buranskas told WGN, calling the idea “slightly more comforting.”
Mackercher hopes that an increase in police patrols will lead to the capture of the suspect.
"If you want to come out here and steal, you're going to be on video," Mackercher said.
