Veena Ashiya Chindlur, a female jogger in the Indian city of Bangalore, fought back after she was harassed on the street by a man.
“Around 9:30 a.m., my friend and I were jogging when he made strange noises and eve-teased me,” Chindlur said.
'Eve-teasing' means to sexually harass or molest someone in public.
Instead of letting the offensive behavior pass, Chindlur confronted the man. In video footage of the incident, Chindlur can be seen walking after the man. She makes him kneel on the ground, then kicks him.
Chindlur immediately reported the incident to police, who used the footage on Chindlur’s friend’s cell phone to capture the man within 40 minutes of the attack.
The man was identified as 30-year-old K.R. Suryaprakash.
Although such harassment is common in Bangalore, Chindlur insisted in an interview with the Bangalore Mirror that women can always fight back.
According to Chindlur, women aren’t able to digest the fact the they can also retaliate, since it’s just not acceptable in Indian society.
Since the footage of her backlash went viral and accumulated more than 50,000 views, Chindlur has become an instant hero in Bangalore.
