A grand jury voted not to indict New York City Police Officer David Pantaleo, who killed Eric Garner with an illegal chokehold on July 17.
According to The New York Times, the chokehold that Officer Pantaleo used on Garner is banned by the New York City Police Department.
Garner was allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes on a sidewalk when Officer Pantaleo grabbed him from behind. Garner was heard yelling, "I can’t breathe!” before he collapsed. A coroner's report ruled his death to be a homicide.
Protests erupted this afternoon in Manhattan, which worried Fox News host Gretchen Carlson about tonight's scheduled Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Plaza, noted CrooksandLiars.com (video below).
Later in the broadcast, Fox News legal commentator Arthur Aidala claimed that Officer Pantaleo used a “seat belt" maneuver to bring Garner to the ground.
Mike Grynbaum, a reporter for The New York Times, noted on Twitter: "The mayor’s appearance tonight at the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting has been canceled."
