Prosecutors claimed, on Monday, that four Army soldiers arrested for killing a former soldier Michael Roark and his girlfriend Tiffany York, in December, were planning to assassinate President Obama and overthrow the government, reports the Associated Press.
The four soldiers [Pfc. Michael Burnett,Pvt. Isaac Aguigui, Sgt. Anthony Peden and Pvt. Christopher Salmon], were allegedly part of a militia called Forever Enduring Always Ready [FEAR] and had spent at least $87,000 on guns and bomb parts.
Prosecutor Isabel Pauley said in Ludowici, Georgia: “This domestic terrorist organization did not simply plan and talk. Prior to the murders in this case, the group took action. Evidence shows the group possessed the knowledge, means and motive to carry out their plans.”
The militia allegedly planned to take over Fort Stewart in Georgia and bomb numerous targets, but the plot was discovered during a murder case involving the killing Roark and his girlfriend York.
Pfc. Burnett said in court that Roark and York were executed after the militia thought Roark had betrayed them.
Pfc. Burnett and the other three soldiers have been charged with malice murder, felony murder, criminal gang activity, aggravated assault and using a firearm while committing a felony.
