Larry Pratt, head of Gun Owners of America, recently compared President Obama to King George III (for the second time) during an interview with the UK’s Channel 4 News (video below).
According to RightWingWatch.org, Pratt claimed that Americans don’t accept the “statistical argument” that a lack of gun control causes higher levels of gun violence.
Prat did not mention that polls show that most Americans do support background checks and banning assault weapons.
“When the colonists said you’ve become a tyrant, stop it, and when he wouldn’t stop, we shot, and we got rid of your king,” Pratt said. "President Obama should remember King George III’s experience as he seems to forget that he was democratically elected.”
However, the American colonists did not get rid of King George III, who actually stepped down in 1820, long after the Revolutionary War, due to a blood disease called 'porphyria.'
Pratt also claimed that people are “already being encouraged by the President’s actions and his words to go and buy firearms."
Pratt said that he is “not calling the President a tyrant yet, but the President certainly has indicated he has a low regard for the law and a low regard for the Constitution,” but Pratt did not provide any evidence to back up his claim.
