A toddler was reunited with his family after a woman found him wandering along the streets of Houston, Texas, alone Tuesday morning.
Shameika Jefferson was on her way to work at about 8 a.m. when she saw a baby pedestrian walking barefoot wearing only a diaper, KHOU reported.
The child made his way to North Shepherd by walking on Marcella. Jefferson grabbed the baby boy, later identified as Joshua, and took him door to door. No one knew the baby.
The teacher and mother-of-three then saw a police officer by The Grind House Coffee & Donut Shop and asked for help.
"He won't let me down. He won't let me put him down,” Jefferson told KHOU. “He wouldn't let the fire department take him and check him out. He won't move.”
She texted her husband, Brandon, and asked him to bring diapers and wipes for the baby.
"Always, such a good person, a good heart," Brandon Jefferson said, adding that he wasn't surprised by his wife's actions.
Police worked with Jefferson to find baby Joshua’s home. The child was eventually reunited with his grandmother, and is now back home.
Children’s Protective Services will investigate the incident, Click 2 Houston reported.
