A Georgia teen is in a medically induced coma with severe burns covering his body after being scalded with boiling rice in an attack.
Damon Clay, a 17-year-old Atlanta teen, was reportedly sleeping on Monday morning when two young men threw a pot of boiling rice on him. Clay’s attackers, 19-year-old Quintavious Barner and 18-year-old Malik Moton, had allegedly accused him of stealing a Playstation 3 video game system.
Clay had recently been released from jail for a burglary incident, and was in a three-month program in which a minister had promised to look after him and give him guidance.
“He didn’t have any supervision, none,” Clay’s aunt said. The teen had been bouncing around from place to place at the time of the attack. “I’d rather my nephew be in jail than here,” his aunt said.
Following the brutal attack, Clay was put into a medically induced coma in intensive care. His burns reportedly cover 70 percent of his body. According to reports, doctors plan to take him off of a ventilator and perform surgery. His attackers will face charges of aggravated assault and cruelty to a child.
“He’s scarred for the rest of his life,” Clay’s aunt said. “His life will never be the same.”
