Last week, Opposing Views told you about the five-year-old Texas boy found starving underneath the stairs in the home of his father and stepmother. Thankfully, the latest reports say that little Jordan Bleimeyer is recovering well in the hospital while both his dad and stepmom have been charged with felony child endangerment.
"The first thing that he asked for was a Happy Meal," said Suzannah Gale, organizer of the Toys For Jordan drive on Facebook. "It just really did make it a happy meal."
For his first week in the hospital, Bleimeyer had to be fed through a feeding tube because he was so malnourished. Finally, Bleimeyer was able to come off the tube and is officially cleared for solid foods, opting for McDonald’s as his first meal.
Bleimeyer’s biological mother Windy Hall was reunited with her son after not seeing him for two years, although the circumstances surrounding their separation are unknown. Hall says that the five-year-old immediately told her terrifying stories of abuse at the hands of his 24-year-old father Bradley Bleimeyer. She also says she is fighting to regain custody of her son.
"He was locked up under that stairwell. In a separate room,” said Hall. “His daddy hitting him. He can't cry when the other children took his food.”
A GoFundMe campaign set up to help raise money for the five-year-old has already raised over $2,500.
Currently, Bradley Bleimeyer remains in jail on $150,000 bail, while Jordan’s stepmother Tammi Bleimeyer, 33, was released on $2,000 bail. She claims she has no idea how the five-year-old got to be so malnourished.
