Actor Elijah Wood said child actors are in danger of being sexually abused by high-powered "vipers" working in Hollywood.
Wood, 35, told The Sunday Times that his mother had protected him against child molesters since he started off in Hollywood at age 8, the Daily Mail reported.
"I've been led down dark paths to realize that these things are probably still happening," Wood told the newspaper in a recent interview.
Wood said he believes child actors today are still in danger.
"If you're innocent, you have very little knowledge of the world and you want to succeed," he said. "People with parasitic interests will see you as their prey. What upsets me about these situations is that the victims can't speak as loudly as the people in power."
Woods mentioned Jimmy Savile, a British entertainer who was accused of molesting hundreds of women and children at the height of his fame, according to The Guardian.
"You all grew up with Savile - Jesus, it must have been devastating," Wood said, the Daily Mail noted. "Clearly something major was going on in Hollywood. It was all organized.
"There are a lot of vipers in this industry. There is a darkness in the underbelly - if you can imagine it, it's probably happened."
Rumors of child abusers working in Hollywood have been circulating for years now. In his memoir, "Coreygraphy," Corey Feldman detailed the abuse he and Corey Haim suffered while being child actors in Hollywood, the New York Daily News reported. Haim died of pneumonia in 2010, at the age of 38.
"Within hours of our first meeting, we found ourselves talking about 'Lucas,' the film he made in the summer of 1985, the role I had wanted for myself," Feldman wrote of the first time he met Haim, according to the Daily News.
"At some point during the filming, he explained an adult male convinced him that it was perfectly normal for older men and younger boys in the business to have sexual relations, that it was what all 'guys do.'
"So they walked off to a secluded area between two trailers, during a lunch break for the cast and crew, and Haim, innocent and ambitious as he was, allowed himself to be sodomized."
According to the book, Haim then asked Feldman, "I guess we should play around like that, too?"
Feldman reportedly replied, "No, that's not what kids do, man."
Anne Henry, co-founder of Bizparentz, an organization committed to helping young actors, said Hollywood is currently sheltering around “100 active abusers," the Daily Mail reported.
Henry said she believes the abuse has caused some child actors to go “off the rails” later in life.
“This problem has been endemic in Hollywood for a long time and it's finally coming to light,” Henry said, according to the Daily Mail. “Very bad people are still working here, protected by their friends.”
