Matthew Halleck carries a concealed gun every weekday when he takes his two daughters to Harriet Bishop Elementary school in Rochester, Minnesota.
"I'm going to protect my children anyway I can,” Halleck told ABC 6 News (video below).
However, Kimberly Edson recently announced that Halleck carries a gun with a sign in her front yard across the street from the school.
The sign includes Halleck's picture and states: "This man carries a loaded gun around your children every day."
"Since we don't have a way to stop him, we felt it was important to notify the neighborhood and the parents that there is an armed man in their presence,” Edson told ABC 6 News. "The first couple days of school he had it very visible, we saw it and were quite concerned."
Edson notified police when she saw Halleck with a gun, but officers told her that he has a legal permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Halleck complained about Edson's sign, but was informed she has the right to post it on her yard.
"He has a 2nd Amendment right to carry the gun, I have my 1st Amendment right to say that I don't like it,” stated Edson.
For its part, Rochester Public Schools said: “We cannot comment on this as it is not a school matter, however, Rochester Public Schools holds the safety of our students and staff at the highest priority.”
Halleck is considering filing a libel lawsuit against Edson, but that would likely fail because Edson's sign states the facts, not defamation.
Edson has been attacked on numerous pro-gun sites that object to her exercising her First Amendment rights.
