Peaceful and violent protests broke out throughout the country following a grand jury’s decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
Demonstrators in the Chinatown area of Washington, D.C., set American flags ablaze.
The Blaze reports that photos and video captured demonstrators setting at least two flags on fire while others around them held up signs reading “Darren Wilson murdered Mike Brown.”
Thousands of protesters gathered around 8 p.m., chanting, “No justice, no peace.”
"Police actually helped to shut down the street so that we could walk [and] protest without being in harm's way," a woman toldNBC Washington.
From Los Angeles to New York, protesters took to the streets. In Ferguson, nearly a dozen buildings burned and about 61 people were arrested on charges including burglary, illegal weapons possession and unlawful assembly, according to Reuters.
