Dr. Deidra Blackmon, a Texas veterinarian, was shot dead over the weekend after one of her friends threw up next to the suspected gunman’s car. 24-year-old Jeffrey Hansana is facing a murder charge for shooting Blackmon in the head. His girlfriend, 22-year-old Heather Rene Thompson, is charged with failure to report a felony. They are being held on $250,000 and $10,000 bail, respectively.
The exact details of what happened are a little murky but it appears that the shooting stemmed from an incident that occurred in a convenience store parking lot, reports The Daily Mail. Blackmon, 33, and two friends were out celebrating on Saturday night, and after leaving a bar they pulled into the parking lot of a nearby convenience store. Hansana was also parked in that lot.
Blackmon went into the store and it is believed that Thompson went into the establishment as well. At some point after the ladies had both emerged from the store, one of Blackmon’s friends vomited next to Hansana’s car. Saginaw Police Chief Roger Macon said some words were exchanged between Thompson and the three women from the other car. Hansana did not take part in the argument.
Both cars ended up pulling out of the lot. However things quickly took a turn for the worst. Minutes after leaving the store, Hansana allegedly drove up to Blackmon's Lexus and fired five times. One of the rounds went through the rear passenger window and struck her in the head. The Lexus drifted into a nearby field and Blackmon’s friends called for help.
After releasing video from the convenience store showing Thompson, someone called in a tip which police used to apprehend the shooter. Police are still searching for a reasonable motive for the killing. They do not believe that Hansana and Thompson had ever met Blackmon before Saturday. There is also no evidence that the accused gunman was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
