A Riverside County, California, father saved his 12-year-old daughter from a sexual predator after he caught her sneaking out of the house while she was attempting to run away with the man (video below).
Tim LeBlanc said he just happened to be awake at 2 a.m. when the incident occurred in June 2015, and noticed his daughter’s bedroom window was open with nobody in the room.
“The screen was off and this window was open about 3 inches or so,” LeBlanc told CBS Los Angeles. “I was scared to death. Everybody tells me I’m overprotective, but apparently I’m under-protective.”
LeBlanc quickly began searching his neighborhood and soon found his daughter nearby with the man, whom she reportedly met on a social media site.
“He had [the truck's] door open about this wide and had his arm around my daughter and was kind of sweeping her in, putting her into the truck,” he said. The father knocked the suspect, 27-year-old Scott Stilwell, to the ground and took a picture of him unconscious which he later shared online.
Stilwell reportedly drove from more than an hour away to prey on the girl, NBC San Diego reported. When LeBlanc confronted him, he reportedly yelled again and again that he was 16 years old.
Stilwell and LeBlanc’s daughter met on Instagram, and also connected on a social media site called Kik. He would often entice her with gifts.
“I probably wouldn’t have a daughter if I hadn’t caught this,” LeBlanc said. “You hear about it, but never really think about it. Just sick.”
LeBlanc told NBC that the incident was one of his worst fears almost becoming a reality.
“That she was gone forever, the world we live in, there are such sick people, there are some horrible people out there,” he said.
Stilwell was arrested and charged with meeting a minor for a lewd and lascivious act. His family was reportedly shocked by the incident, and told authorities that he had a history of mental illness.
“What I’ve gained from my interaction with this guy is I don’t think she would’ve ever came home alive,” LeBlanc told CBS Los Angeles.
