A young Idaho mother faces felony charges after she allegedly left her baby home alone to go party.
Steffany Snell, 19, faces felony charges of injury to a child after her 8-month-old baby was found at home alone on Sunday morning, My Fox 8 reported.
The Idaho Falls Police had arrested Snell earlier that morning at around 2 a.m. for driving under the influence.
According to Idaho Falls Police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen, reports indicate that Snell left her child home alone in order to go to a party.
After she was arrested, a family member contacted authorities to conduct a welfare check on the child. When police arrived at Snell’s home, they discovered the infant sleeping in his crib alone in the house.
Despite being alone, the baby was in otherwise good health and required no medical attention.
The baby has since been placed in the custody of his grandparents.
According to a report from AmericanHumane.org, child neglect accounts for 62.8 percent of all child maltreatment cases with the victims of neglect highest amongst children 3 years old and younger.
