Reports out of Venezuela say that Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has been kidnapped.
Multiple reports say four gunmen burst into Ramos's house in the city of Valencia Wednesday night, forced the 24-year-old out, and then sped away in a green vehicle. He was there with his family yet only Ramos was taken. So far the kidnappers have not contacted the family with ransom demands.
ESPN.com reports that the Body of Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations has set up operations at the Ramos home, according to El Nacional.
The Washington Post reports that the State Department described kidnappings in Venezuela as a "growing industry." Many of them are so-called "express" kidnappings, in which gunmen drive their victim around for a while before taking their money and letting them go. The State Department said that “groups that specialize in these types of crimes operate with impunity or fear of incarceration.”
