John Frazier, a 58-year-old homeless man, was reportedly set on fire while he slept in a sleeping bag on a beach in Ventura, California, on Jan. 17.
"Three males that might have been involved in it that actually did, used lighter fluid to pour on the victim's sleeping bag and other items that were near him and set it on fire," Ventura Police Commander Thom Higgins told KABC (video below).
Fortunately, a bystander apparently saw the flames and was able to put out the fire with sand and call 911. Frazier was taken to a nearby hospital.
According to CBS Los Angeles, officials say Frazier endured burns on 40 percent of his extremities and torso, but is expected to survive.
The three white males reportedly have shaved heads, were dressed in dark clothing and are in their late teens or early 20s, added Ventura Police Department Sgt. Kenny Welch, noted NBC Los Angeles.
